Celebrate the launch of the Addison Road Picture House with the extraordinary new film, Dream of Mara’akame/ Sueño de Mara’akame (Mexico).
Sydney Latin American Film Festival (SLAFF) is transforming Gumbramorra Hall at Addison Road Community Centre into an independent screening space!
Addison Road Picture House will be the spiritual successor of the Inner West’s old Art Deco cinemas that closed down in the 50s & 60s. It will be open to community groups and indie film festivals to access.
Mara’akame’s Dream, an extraordinary new film, opens a gateway to their extraordinary view of the world and warns of disconnection from the land and from each other.
Nieri is a young huichol indian, whose dream is travelling with his music band to play in a concert in Mexico City. But his father is a Mara’akame (huichol shaman) and has different plans for his son. His must find the Blue Deer in his dreams in order to become a Mara’kame and follow his tradition. Nieri travels to Mexico city where he gets lost but finally finds his vision.
With magical beauty this session brings audiences remarkably closer to understanding the grand intelligence of nature.
Presented as part of Pachamama Festival 2017 and supported by Inner West Council’s Open Inner West
The Addison Road Picture House has been supported by the Addison Road Community Centre Organisation, and the Inner West Council through the Stronger Communities Fund.
